CAB-U (University)

The CAB-University (CAB-U) convenes leadership of and oversees all HIV-related CABs across UC San Diego. This CAB meets quarterly, provides training to CAB members and produces an annual summit to convene all UC San Diego-related CAB members. CAB-U ensures synergy across our CAB network and serves as a training and capacity-building vehicle.

This cab meets quarterly. Contact: Kim Schoonover at hiv@ucsd.edu.

Participating Community Advisory Boards (CABs)

Antiviral Research Center (AVRC) CAB
The AntiViral Research Center (AVRC) CAB assembles investigators and local people with HIV (PWH), at-risk, and HIV-affected community members. This CAB meets monthly to review proposed HIV clinical trials, including study design, feasibility, and safety for participants. CAB members share concerns related to ethics or protection of study participants and make recommendations on topics discussed. The CAB provides local researchers with valuable input on enhancing participant recruitment and retention.

CAB meetings are held the first Monday of every month from 5:30pm to 7pm (currently via Zoom). There are often exceptions, so it is generally a good idea to call first at (619) 543-8080.

This CAB meets every two months. Membership extends to community-based organizations that address intersecting HIV conditions (e.g., mental health, violence, substance use) and that provide services to key populations (e.g., women, Blacks, Latinx, youth, PWID, incarcerated populations).

CAB meetings are every other month via Zoom.

TCAB improves and sustains the health and well-being of transgender and nonbinary persons through inclusion in HIV research. Their activities include evaluating current and proposed research efforts, making recommendations to investigators, and sharing ideas on improving transgender/nonbinary community access to and engagement with HIV research.

CAB meetings are monthly on the 2nd Thursday of every month via Zoom from 5:30pm-7pm, unless noted otherwise.
